Heat Wave
Tonight, our favorite pulp novelist returns in Season 2 of Castle on ABC 10/9c. I am not sure if this is a brilliant stroke or not, but you know that first Nikki Heat novel that Richard Castle was working on? The one that came out at the end of Season 1 when Beckett complained about the lack of clothing on Nikki’s character? Um… this one?:
Well you may have guessed it! ABC is releasing the novel on the 29th! You can read chapters 1-6 on CastleTV.net. As soon as I read the first paragraph I had to start laughing. It is absolutely written in the voice of Richard Castle. You and I are now wondering, “who ACTUALLY wrote the book?” According to the show’s creator, Andrew Marlowe, the ACTUAL author is… Richard Castle?! Well, to add to the whole scene is Richard Castle’s Twitter page. Apparently he is thinking more and more about Beckett. That makes two of us, Richard! And, AND! Richard Castle aka Nathan Fillion, will be at Barnes & Noble in The Grove on October 19th, signing the first Nikki Heat novel: HEAT WAVE.
It doesn’t seem enough, these days, to simply advertise on TV. The concept of a 360 ad campaign has really been embraced, lending depth to Castle’s character. There are dialogue references from Season 1 in the book. And supposedly they reference pages from the book in Season 2. He Tweets about his day: leaving the coffee shop, going to the library, walking through Central Park etc. Which I will be doing soon myself as I am heading to New York tomorrow. Tweets, blogs and pictures will ensue. At any rate, I find the approach interesting, and I wonder how much of it is done by Nathan Fillion. He seems like the type that might have a lot of fun getting that in depth with a character he really likes. I won’t analyze it too much, because I enjoy the illusion. And I will certainly be on the couch at 10pm!
Cheers,
