Dakota Rawhide “Deux”
Thursday, March 4th, 2010
I’m going to venture a wild guess and say that my host’s server crashed last night because I could not access my website. Further more my last post is now gone. Disappeared. Floating vaguely in the ether of cyperspace. It’s too bad really because it was no doubt clever. Written in the moment. Zen, even. Because I cannot remember what it said. I simply remember its function: introducing the progress on my banner for Comic Con 2010 and displaying little Dakota Tayler in all her interstellar outlaw hotness as she acts the gang-sign-throwing harbinger of BOOK 2… just before she shoots you twixt the eyes. Don’t fuck with her. She’s not having a nice day.
This is not the final. The template for the banner will change, I may add some little details to her, I may change the background completely but I’m liking the lost edges this one produced so I may keep it just for that. At any rate BOOK 2 is moving along and I will soon jump fully into illustrating it. Expect to see more full color pieces this time around, but probably fewer illustrations proportionately as I’d like to give the writing a fighting chance. Many people seemed to think that BOOK 1 was about the art and so thought they could get away with just looking at the pictures and giving a crit. It was about the story. The story was told in the writing. It was about the writing, first and foremost. The writing in BOOK 1 was so-so imo. BOOK 2 is way the hell better. No doubt. Y’all will dig it. Assuming you like stories that take characters to dark places. ‘Cause I do. So! Enjoy the painting so far! Dakota, like Natalie Portman, is a badass bitch. You’d pay for her dry-cleaning too.
Cheers,

Dakota Rawhide update
Saturday, November 14th, 2009
So, a little news and update on the goings on of Dakota Rawhide Tayler:
First, I have update the story section with the full manuscript of the first book, which is really just a short story, or a novelette if you want to get technical, as well as a DAKOTA RAWHIDE PDF of the illustrated version.
“But, Daniel!” you might say. “Why in the frack would you do this, and give away such secrets?!”
My reasons for such an act are two-fold:
1.) To dispel the notion of this being, in any way, a comic or graphic novel. It is not based around sequential art, though there is a single sequential page. It is, quite literally, an illustrated novelette. The story is told via writing, which has illustrations to accompany it.
2.) I would rather flare more interest in Dakota than just horde her adventure(s) like a miser with his gold. I want to put her story and later, other stories, out into the verse! Afterall, what’s the point of writing stories if nobody gets to enjoy them?
BOOK 1 is simply a prologue, an intro to a few of the characters, and a chance to get to know Dakota. It is, by no means, the extent of what I have so I have no problem giving it away for the general public’s enjoyment… albeit low-res enjoyment ;) Not at all as nice as having a beautifully printed version, but hey, wishes ain’t horses, right? Cause if they were hell, we’d all be eatin’ steak! So, feel free to grab the PDF and enjoy, because it probably won’t stay up forever.
On another note, the rest of the story is progressing quite nicely. What I am inappropriately still calling BOOK II. It will actually all be a single novel, but, it’s an old habit that just didn’t lay down. They never lay down… The actual writing is only moving at a Bantha’s pace, but that is mostly due to my focusing still on the story itself, which should be figured out in the next month or so, at which time I suspect the writing will take off like a Viper Mark II. So, on that note! That note being a rather geeky one, I am off to write and enjoy my afternoon coffee… which will be my first coffee in 96 hours due to a lame-ass cold. Clearly I am feeling a little more on top of the weather. :D
Sol’s (Dakota Character Lineup WIP)
Tuesday, October 20th, 2009
Aaaaaand, we’re back!!
What are we back with on this fine Tuesday morning? Some art work. Well, a work-in-progress anyway. What we in the Arts & Internets world commonly refer to as a WIP!
It’s a character lineup for DAKOTA RAWHIDE, a couple of which we have not yet encountered! From left to right: Seth Sandoval, Ace D’Argento, Dakota Tayler, Dorian Graives, Jesse Graives.
As was mentioned, it is a WIP, so the characters are highly unfinished, the environment still demands a lot of love, and the composition is a bit spotty in terms of value grouping, but I promise! this will all be resolved by the time I call it finished. So stay tuned!
Cheers,
